apparently, CS5 has become more stable.Īnd. and, it's history for stability is VERY poor. I must say that Avid "extended" the time until MC5 crashes - but you can crash MC5 still within 2 minutes. All of my editor collegues have this bug and it even occurs on the Avid systems at IBC. This bug happens on every machine everytime.

Try it for yourself - you will immediately say a thousand times "why is that possible in CS5 and not in MC?" and "why is that so easy in CS5 but not in MC?".Īnd you are right: I found an editing app that is far ahead of everything that MC5 offers now plus total stability and freedom of resolution and formats that I don't get from didn't want to offend you but maybe you don't use the right workflow to provoke this bug. But I will definitely buy a CS5 licence and do some projects (where the client doesn't want MC as editing app) on Premiere CS5. I cannot, because the script view is an essential part of my workflow. I'm still on MC4 because of all the bugs and workarounds of MC5, but would really like to use MC5. I can't believe why MC is so much behind. I'm an Avid editor for years now but I must say that the workflow is so much better with CS5. Only the exports can be background rendered. You can add some timelines while it's rendering or change unrendered exports on the fly.īut it does not background render unrendered effects in your timeline while editing. It simply passes the timeline (yes - not the file but the timeline) to Adobe Media Encoder that runs in the background and renders the whole render list. I even tried to capture 60min of HDV without any problem in Premiere. Sorry Avid - it's my time for a new thinking - capturing with all decks that I had (HDV, DVCPro, DV) via firewire was no problem at all. And even that version has problems after problems after problems. Avid is really lightyears behind with MC5.

I will continue to use Avid but I will also buy a CS5 license because that new Premiere version was absolutely astonishing. I think I'll have to wait until Avid releases MC10 until I get those features. I know it's not popular to post this in an Avid forum but I'm glad I gave Premiere CS5 a try. My god - I missed so much the last years fighting with our Avid system. Use your GPU to render the video in realtime (Mercury engine) Free scaling, positioning, cropping of any video or picture in the timeline Use dynamic link to open your timeline in Encore to create DVDs or BluRays
Use dynamic link to use your timeline within After Effects WITHOUT any rendering. flawless AAF and OMF exports even when you use P2 or XDCam material Background encoding of exports while you continue editing (with render cue list) excellent export dialog with any export functionality that you can imagine

Reacitve behaviour of the software - really fast Totally stable software - I edited a whole day with lots of different codecs and had NOT A SINGLE CRASH switch to avid keyboard shortcuts and edit like you would do this in MC

Exellent media management - Consolidate your project at the end of editing to a archive folder WITH ALL MEDIA that you used Resolution independent editing (Bring hires pictures in and soom and scale how you like) Absolutely flawless editing of ALL CODECS natively in the timeline Absolutely flawless editing of linked 5D DSLR material (no sluggish playback like in MC) Absolutely flawless editing of LINKED P2 material Man - this software is so many lightyears ahaed when you compare it to Avid: No stable MC5 for half a year now.Ī collegue gave me a laptop with Premiere CS5 on it and I gave it a try. Now 6 month (HALF A YEAR!!!) without a fix for this bug.
